On behalf of our community, I am pleased to welcome you to our website. Whether you are a citizen of Sedalia needing information, a future visitor to our community or a business looking for a place that is dedicated to your success, our website is here to meet your needs.

Excitement is everywhere as we welcome you to Sedalia! Our friendly town extends a hello and welcome to all – new residents, visitors and a special welcome to new Team Whiteman Air Force Base members.

Sedalia is situated perfectly – both geographically and in the services we provide. Sedalia is the county seat of Pettis County, nestled in the heart of central Missouri at one of the most well-known intersections in the area; Highway 50 and 65 Junction. A short trip in a chosen direction provides varied opportunities; east takes you closer to Jefferson City, west to Kansas City, north to the busy I-70 corridor, or south to the soothing waters of Truman Lake.

You will be amazed at the variety of housing available within Sedalia. From the statuesque Victorian mansions of our 1860’s founding to new construction in virtually every direction. Sedalia boasts two National Historic Districts, the Sedalia Commercial Historic District and the Missouri State Fair Grounds Historic District as well as eleven individually listed properties.

We are fortunate to support a vibrant economy with many industrial and manufacturing businesses located within our Enhanced Enterprise Zone. Sedalia is home to a variety of arts, cultural and recreational opportunities ranging from the Contemporary Daum Museum of Art at State Fair Community College to the annual Scott Joplin festival in Downtown Sedalia. Sedalia is also the proud home of the Missouri State Fair, an annual celebration of Missouri’s agriculture and art.

Experience the picturesque Katy Trail State Park built on the former corridor of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT or Katy), running 240 miles between Clinton and Machens, with Sedalia’s main trailhead located at the Katy Depot. The Katy Depot is a fully restored railroad depot containing a museum, gift shop and bike rentals.

Visit the newly completed Heckart Community Center, made possible by the taxpayers of Sedalia and a generous donation from Sue Heckart made in memory of her parents Dell and Stella Heckart. It is an amazing multi-purpose facility that includes an indoor aquatic facility, community center rooms, convention space, basketball/volleyball/pickleball courts, a fitness area, party rooms, child watch area, an indoor playground, and is the home of the Sedalia Senior Center.

The City is served by the Sedalia #200 School District. The District consists of eight schools; five elementary, one middle school, one jr. high and one high school. There are also six private schools. Citizens may continue their education locally through State Fair Community College; an institution dedicated to providing outstanding vocational and technical education.

We are excited to show you around our always friendly and dynamic community. This website will direct you to the City resources that will help make an easier transition for you as you become acquainted with our beautiful town. As we cross paths, we are excited to begin this journey with you.

We look forward to welcoming you to Sedalia.
