About Mayor Andrew Dawson

Mayor Andrew Dawson headshotMayor Dawson was active on the Sedalia City Council serving as Second Ward City Councilman for three years prior to taking office as Mayor of the City of Sedalia in April of 2022. During his terms of office as Second Ward Councilman he served as the Chairman of the Community Development Council Committee, Chairman of Finance and Administration Council Committee, and also served as Mayor Pro-Tem for one term prior to taking office as Mayor. He is a member of the Transportation Advisory Committee for the Pioneer Trails Regional Planning Commission, serves as a member of the Regional Homeland Security Oversight Committee, a member of the Municipal Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Committee for the Missouri Municipal League and is a member of the Base Community Council for Whiteman Air Force Base. 

He has been instrumental in the restructuring of Community Development, developing the Residential 353 Tax Abatement Program, and advocated for the drafting and passage of numerous pro-neighborhood ordinances. He has served and continues to serve as President of the Sedalia Redevelopment Corporation. He has organized multiple neighborhood clean-ups and canvassed in support of the Heckart Community Center. He is a Certified Municipal Official, as well as holds an advanced certification from the Municipal Governance Institute.

He is married to Rachel Dawson, State Fair Community College Human Resources Executive Director. They have five children together. “My community service is only possible due to the support I receive and sacrifices made by my family – I am grateful to them,” says Mayor Dawson. He is a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School and is a life-long Sedalia resident. “Sedalia is my home. It is an honor that the residents of my community have selected me to serve them in the office of Mayor of City of Sedalia”.
