Winter Weather Strikes Again!
Winter Storm Warning in Effect for Sedalia: Move Vehicles from Snow Routes & Prepare for Hazardous Conditions
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Sedalia that started Monday, February 17, 2025, in effect until Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Forecasts indicate the potential for a significant amount of snow, followed by extreme cold temperatures that will make road conditions hazardous for several days.
Snow Routes Must Be Cleared – City Ordinance Enforced
Snow routes will go into effect on Monday, February 17, 2025, at noon in anticipation of significant snowfall. Residents are reminded that city ordinance prohibits parking on designated snow routes during winter storms. Vehicles left on snow routes create serious obstacles for plows and prevent emergency vehicles from responding effectively. Vehicles left on snow routes during a snow emergency risk being towed or fined. These vehicles cause delays in snow removal efforts and prevent first responders from reaching those in need. We greatly appreciate your cooperation in keeping these routes clear.
Road Conditions & Snow Removal Challenges
City crews pretreated roads on Monday and will continue working throughout the storm. However, with extreme cold temperatures expected, salt and de-icing chemicals will be less effective, making it difficult to keep roads clear. Expect slick and icy conditions to persist for several days.
Travel Safety Precautions
If you must travel, drive with caution and allow extra time. Prepare for the possibility of being stranded by keeping an emergency kit in your vehicle. Recommended items include:
- Warm clothing and blankets
- Non-perishable food and water
- Flashlight with extra batteries
- Phone charger and backup battery
- First aid kit
