Springfork Lake Temporarily Closes — September 23, 2026 through September 25, 2026 — Missouri Department of Conservation Spraying Lotus Plant Via Airplane

Springfork Lake will be temporarily closed to the public beginning at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2026, through 6:00 a.m. Friday, September 25, 2026. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) will be conducting an aerial treatment of the lotus plant at Springfork Lake on Wednesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 24. The closure is necessary to allow the Missouri Department of Conservation to safely spray the treatment chemicals from an airplane and to keep the public away from the lake during the application.

Several years ago, the City of Sedalia discontinued the use of Springfork Lake as a source of public drinking water. Therefore, the lotus plant and the upcoming treatment do not present a hazard to the community’s drinking water supply.

We apologize for any inconvenience the closure of Springfork Lake may cause. However, the temporary closure is necessary to provide a safe area for the aerial application of the treatment chemicals and to protect the public and environment during the process.
