Sedalia Transitions Yard Waste Pickup Program to On-Demand Scheduling Starting July 1

The City of Sedalia is making an update to its Bi-Monthly Yard Waste Disposal & Pickup Program. Beginning July 1, 2025, participating residents will transition to an on-demand scheduling model designed to improve flexibility, expand service capacity, and streamline City operations.

Previously, yard waste pickups were automatically scheduled based on trash routes. Under the new model, enrolled households will be able to schedule their two monthly pickups when it’s most convenient for them, helping the City reduce unnecessary stops and better manage resources.

Despite the change, the program will continue to operate at the same affordable rate. The service remains optional and is available for $2.00 per month, or $1.70 per month for residents age 60 and older. Each scheduled pickup allows for up to two cubic yards of yard waste. Additional fees will apply for overages.

To continue receiving service, participants will need to schedule pickups in advance by calling 660-827-7820 or emailing yardwastedisposal@sedalia.com. All requests must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on the Friday before the desired Monday pickup. Yard waste should not be placed at the curb unless a pickup has been confirmed.

The City believes the on-demand model will make the service more user-friendly while increasing its reach.

“This change gives residents more flexibility and allows us to better serve the entire community,” said Justin Bray, Public Works Director of Operations. “We’re excited to keep the program affordable while also improving its responsiveness.”

Residents who are not yet enrolled in the program are encouraged to sign up and take advantage of the convenience and affordability the service offers.
