City of Sedalia Recognizes Eagle Scout Candidate for Flag Retirement Box Project
The City of Sedalia highlighted a meaningful act of community service during the City Council meeting on Monday, December 1, when Mayor Andrew Dawson recognized Scouting America Troop 61 Eagle Scout candidate Jack Frederick for constructing three new flag retirement drop-off boxes for the city.
To open the meeting, members of Troop 61 stepped forward to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. Their presence offered a fitting start to an evening centered on service, respect, and community pride. Mayor Dawson explained that the new boxes will give residents a dignified way to retire worn American flags and invited Fire Chief Matt Irwin and Police Chief David Woolery to join him in expressing the City’s appreciation.
Chief Irwin spoke about the significance of the American flag to Sedalia’s emergency services and noted that the new boxes replace an informal process that relied on temporary storage. The project, he said, reflects the values associated with the rank of Eagle Scout and provides a lasting benefit to the city.
Council members and attendees applauded Frederick’s contribution and thanked him for the care he put into the project.
The three boxes, painted in a stars and stripes design and built with a hinged lid for safe placement and handling, will be installed at the Sedalia Police Department and at both Sedalia fire stations for community use.
After the meeting, Frederick received congratulations from his family, fellow scouts, and Troop 61 leaders.
We would like to express sincere gratitude for his work and the enduring value it provides to our community and residents who wish to honor the nation’s flag with care and respect.
