City of Sedalia Assists in Recovery of Stolen Vehicle and Arrest of Suspect

On the evening of Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the City of Sedalia’s Police Department assisted the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office in recovering a stolen vehicle and apprehending a suspect following a multi-jurisdictional pursuit.
At approximately 6:17 p.m., officers with the Sedalia Police Department developed information regarding the location of a green 2025 Jeep Wrangler that had been reported stolen earlier that morning from the 1000 block of South Limit Avenue. The vehicle was believed to be located at an address on Green Road in Pettis County.
This information was relayed to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the area and located the stolen vehicle. When contact was attempted, the suspect fled the scene, initiating a pursuit at approximately 6:51 p.m.
As the pursuit continued toward Sedalia city limits, Pettis County Deputies requested assistance from Sedalia Police in deploying tire deflation devices. Sedalia officers responded to key intersections to alert motorists and attempt to safely disable the vehicle. When the suspect drove off the roadway to avoid the tire deflation efforts, officers briefly joined the pursuit but lost visual contact with the vehicle. At approximately 7:15 p.m., Sedalia officers located the unoccupied stolen vehicle parked in the 1300 block of Walker Circle. Working collaboratively with deputies from the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office, officers quickly determined the suspect had entered a nearby apartment in an attempt to evade capture. The suspect was located inside and taken into custody without incident.
Officers recovered keys to the stolen vehicle along with burglary tools. It was later determined that the suspect had unlawfully entered an occupied residence on Walker Circle. The residents were home at the time of the intrusion but were not harmed.
The suspect was identified as Joshua Gresham, age 40, of Sedalia. Gresham was transported to the Pettis County Jail and placed on a 24-hour hold pending the filing of formal charges by the Pettis County Prosecutor’s Office.
Charges requested include:
- Resisting Arrest — Felony
- Tampering with a Motor Vehicle — Felony
- Burglary in the First Degree — Felony
