Push-In Ceremony for the Sedalia Fire Department

Thank you for joining us at today’s Push-In Ceremony for the Sedalia Fire Department’s new aerial truck.

This morning, our community helped welcome this new apparatus into service with a tradition that dates back to the 1800s.

Before fire engines had motors, firefighters had to push their horse-drawn equipment back into the station by hand. Today, departments across the country continue that ceremonial “push-in” as a reminder of teamwork, pride, and the dedication of firefighters who have served for generations.

Sedalia carried that tradition forward today.

Our firefighters, city leaders, and community members gathered together to push the new truck into its bay, marking the official start of its service to the people of Sedalia. This aerial truck represents a major investment in public safety and strengthens the department’s ability to protect families, businesses, and neighborhoods across our city.

Mayor Andrew Dawson shared these words during the ceremony:

“This is an exciting moment for our city, and it shows something very important: public safety must always be our number one priority. When we invest in public safety, we invest in our people. And when we take care of our firefighters, they can take care of all of us.”

We are grateful to the Sedalia Fire Department for the courage and heart they bring to work every single day, and to our City Council for their continued commitment to ensuring our first responders have the tools they need to keep our community safe.

Sedalia is safer because of the people who serve.
