The City of Sedalia and Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce have
teamed up to create Sedalia Shop Local – an initiative highlighting and
supporting our local businesses within the Sedalia-Pettis County area.
According to community-wealth.com, the Institute for Local Self
Reliance (ILSR) has conducted surveys over several years. Those who
responded to ILSR’s 2014 survey reported an annual sales increase of
5.3%, but those “with a buy independent/buy local campaign run by an
Independent Business Alliance or similarly-modeled organization reported
a strong 7.0 % sales increase compared to just 2.3% for those in areas
without such a campaign.”
In the wake of the COVID-19
pandemic, there is no better time than today to support local
businesses. Most of us earn our money locally. By investing your dollars
back into our community, you strengthen neighbor relationships both
economically and socially. By supporting local businesses, they in turn
are able to donate to organizations and local causes!
Sedalia
Shop Local will soon launch a 2021 holiday promotion encouraging area
residents to not only shop and gift locally, but to spend quality free
time by exploring where they live. Sedalia Shop Local will be a
continuous campaign year ‘round with other planned events including
Restaurant Month in January and sidewalk sales in both April and August.
We can’t wait to catch up with you – while you’re out shopping
locally!
