Park security staff with Sedalia Parks and Recreation are tasked with providing a secure and safe environment for park visitors and staff. Park security personnel may work alone or with a partner. This position requires flexibility as new developments may change the necessity of security to be on site. Sedalia Parks and Recreation oversees about 400 acres of park land and property that will be monitored by Park Security staff. A company vehicle is provided for patrolling of parks. Park security staff are an ambassador of all our parks and facilities by answering calls for service in a professional manner and monitor park property for concerns of safety, suspicious activity and violation of City laws, rules, and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. 1. Patrol Sedalia Parks and Recreation properties to verify safety of visitors and guest. Verify Department’s parks, facilities and buildings are secured appropriately. Monitor activities held in parks or in facilities are safe and are following established City of Sedalia ordinances, rules, and regulations.
2. Watch for and report suspicious activity and take appropriate action as needed.
3. Respond to guest or staff accidents/injuries and complete all necessary reports to document the incident.
4. Respond to calls of service regarding guest complaints and/or inquires.
5. Work special events or programs, as assigned. Duties may include: directing vehicle traffic pedestrian walkways to and from the event.
6. Monitor Parking areas of all facilities.
7. Lock restrooms, turn on/off ball field lights, lock up buildings and check all doors and windows to make sure they are secured at the appropriate time.
8. Exhibit an authoritative but approachable presence that will work with the community and when handling those not following the rules and policies.
9. Recognize potentially dangerous situations and respond in the safest and most effective manner.
10. Patrol and monitor Christmas Light displays overnight. At times, may also be asked to watch freshly poured concrete to insure it is vandalized while curing.
11. Report damages, theft, accident, or irregular activity to Supervisor. Discretion will need to be used as to what situations require immediate notification to Supervisor and which situations can wait until normal business hours.
12. Follow all City of Sedalia ordinances and Sedalia Parks and Recreation rules and regulations.
13. Attend and actively participate in all mandatory training sessions.
14. Maintain First Aid, CPR and AED certifications. Know all safety and emergency procedures and act quickly and responsibly in emergencies.
15. Assist staff with First-Aid and CPR/AED procedures in the event of an emergency.
16. Complete and turn in reports and forms in a timely fashion. Timesheets must be turned in timely and during the correct pay period.
17. Work special events and promotional opportunities, as scheduled or assigned that may take place on evenings, weekends, holidays and across the park systems.
18. Assist with other duties as assigned.

Condition of Employment:
1. Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and agree to be subject to random drug screen throughout employment.
2. Must pass a Background Criminal Investigation check.
3. Must be willing and available to work early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts as scheduled by immediate supervisor, not to exceed 1,500 hours per year.
4. CPR/AED and standard First Aid certification required within 60 days of employment.
5. Clean driving record.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. High School diploma
2. Experience in the field of Security and working with the public.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the parks layout and the name of each Park.
2. Skills in handling how to control traffic flow for large events.
3. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Guidelines include city and department policies and procedures, Health Department codes, and American Red Cross guidelines. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
1. The work can be a wide variety from sitting in a vehicle patrolling, to be on your feet for long periods of time doing foot patrol for sporting events or large programs. Must be able to handle hot or cold temperatures outside when having to work in these conditions.
2. Work is both inside and outside. Late hours can also play part in the work of a Park Security.
The work is performed inside our facility buildings, concession stand, or outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
