Job Scope:

Reporting directly to the Bowling Center Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor oversees the technical and custodial functions of the facility. The position is the first responder to mechanical issues with bowling equipment, HVAC, plumbing, and kitchen systems, and serves as the primary contact for outside repair vendors when issues exceed in-house capabilities. The Supervisor oversees custodial employees and ensures all building areas remain clean, safe, and operational. Work hours include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by facility operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform maintenance and repair of bowling pinsetters, ball returns, scoring systems, and lane equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and routine inspections of all mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and kitchen equipment.
  • Oversee custodial operations to ensure daily cleaning and upkeep of the facility, including lanes, restrooms, kitchen, and public areas.
  • Train, schedule, and supervise custodial employees.
  • Schedule custodial staff and review and approve time-sheets to ensure accuracy in payroll processing.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and schedules for all equipment.
  • Serve as primary contact with outside service providers and contractors for repairs, inspections, and specialized projects.
  • Prepare annual maintenance and custodial budget requests; monitor expenditures to remain within approved budget.
  • Seek opportunities for cost savings by sourcing competitive bids, negotiating vendor pricing, and identifying efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure facility and equipment comply with all health, safety, and building regulations.
  • Monitor inventory of maintenance supplies, parts, and custodial materials; place orders or coordinate purchases as approved.
  • Assist with snow removal, landscaping, and other general facility tasks as assigned.
  • Respond promptly to facility emergencies, including mechanical breakdowns or safety issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in mechanics, HVAC, or electrical preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in facility maintenance or mechanical repair, with experience in bowling equipment maintenance strongly preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of bowling equipment operation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and kitchen systems.
  • Knowledge of custodial practices, cleaning chemicals, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical problems quickly and effectively.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Skill in supervising and training custodial staff.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and the public.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and agree to be subject to random drug screen throughout employment.
  • Must pass a Background Criminal Investigation check.
  • Must be willing and available to work early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed or scheduled by the Memory Lanes Bowling Center Manager.
  • CPR/AED and standard First Aid certification required within 60 days of employment.

Guidelines:

Work is performed in accordance with departmental policies, equipment manuals, safety standards, building codes, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations. Independent judgment is required to prioritize maintenance needs, resolve equipment issues, and determine when to engage outside contractors.

Complexity:

The work involves varied and technical responsibilities, including mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and supervision of custodial operations. The Supervisor must balance competing priorities such as urgent equipment breakdowns, scheduled custodial tasks, and safety compliance. The dynamic nature of a high-use recreation facility contributes to the complexity of the position.

Principal Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Assistant Director of Parks; Director of Sedalia Parks & Recreation; Sedalia Parks & Recreation staff; bowling center employees (full-time and part-time).
  • External: Parts suppliers, service technicians, contractors, inspectors, and members of the general public as needed.

Purpose of Contacts:

Contacts are made to exchange information, supervise staff, coordinate service with vendors, ensure compliance with inspections, and resolve maintenance or safety issues that impact customers and staff.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

Directly supervises custodial employees, including scheduling, training, evaluation, and performance management. Responsible for ensuring custodial work meets department cleanliness and safety standards.

Physical Demands:

Work requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting. Must be able to lift and carry equipment, parts, or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Work Environment:

Work is performed in a recreation facility environment with exposure to noise, dust, moving machinery, cleaning chemicals, and hot/cold conditions. Duties may require work in confined spaces, at heights, or outdoors during inclement weather. The position requires use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
