Job Scope:

The Bowling Center Lead works under the direction of the Bowling Center Manager and Operations Coordinator. While not a formal supervisory position, Leads carry elevated responsibilities at the front desk, including addressing minor mechanical issues, ensuring accurate cash handling, and serving as the first point of contact for guest concerns. Work hours will include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on facility needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Greet patrons, assign lanes, process reservations, issue shoes, and answer questions in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting with inquires, resolving issues when possible, and escalating concerns to supervisors when necessary.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems, handle cash, process payments, and issue receipts; balance daily reports as required.
  • Address and resolve minor mechanical issues such as clearing stuck balls or resetting simple pin jams; promptly notify the Maintenance Supervisor of major issues.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front desk, lobby, and immediate lane areas.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the Operations Coordinator for party and rental reservations.
  • Assist with daily facility opening and closing procedures.
  • Enforce safety, facility, and bowling rules in a courteous but firm matter.
  • Assist with program, league, or event check-ins as directed.
  • Perform light custodial or set-up duties as needed, including restocking supplies, cleaning spills, or preparing tables and chairs for rentals.
  • Stay current on facility schedules, memos, and procedures to ensure accurate information is provided to guests.
  • Maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications and respond in emergencies as trained.
  • Work special events, tournaments, or promotional opportunities, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Condition of Employment:

  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and agree to be subject to random drug screen throughout employment.
  • Must pass a Background Criminal Investigation check.
  • Must be willing and available to work early morning, morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as scheduled by immediate supervisor, not to exceed 1,500 hours per year.
  • CPR/AED and standard First Aid certification required within 60 days of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required plus six (6) months customer service experience, or any equivalent combination or education and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Experience in the use of word processing, typing, and 10-key calculator by touch are desired.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of customer service practices, cash handling, and point-of-sale systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and safely address minor bowling equipment issues.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with a diverse public.
  • Ability to follow directions, multitask, and stay calm under pressure.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to enforce facility rules respectfully and effectively.

Tools and Equipment:

Personal computer, point of sale computer, 10-key calculator, telephone, and copy machine.

Guidelines:

Work is performed in accordance with departmental policies, cash-handling procedures, safety protocols, and bowling operations guidelines. Independent judgment is required when responding to customer issues or minor equipment malfunctions.

Complexity:

The position requires balancing customer service, cash-handling, and operational responsibilities in a high-traffic recreational environment. The ability to resolve immediate issues, such as lane malfunctions or guest complaints, contributes to the complexity of the role.

Principal Working Relationships:

  • Internal: Bowling Center Manager, Operations Coordinator, Kitchen Supervisor, Maintenance Supervisor, custodial staff, and other Parks & Recreation employees.
  • External: General public, league bowlers, party/rental clients, and school groups.

Purpose of Contacts:

Contacts are made to provide customer service, manage transactions, resolve guest issues, and support the smooth operation of bowling activities.

Physical Demands:

Work involves frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds. The position requires use of hands for computer entry, equipment resets, and shoe handling. May require bending or kneeling to clear bowling ball or pin jams.

Work is performed primarily in a bowling facility environment with exposure to noise, cleaning chemicals, and customer activity. The position may require work during peak, high-volume periods and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The work is typically performed in an office, open lobby, kitchen, or outdoors where the employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
