Community Development

The City of Sedalia and its economic development partners wish to recognize and celebrate recent accomplishments. With over $350 million spent on new construction since 2006, we have dramatically expanded west-central Missouri's regional retail center and employment base. Our longstanding mission is to facilitate both the ease of opening and the ongoing success of your business in Sedalia. We are hopeful that you will join us by adding your business to this legacy.

The West Central Region of Missouri consists of 13 counties and Sedalia/Pettis County serves as this region's hub. The top industries within this region are retail trade, farming, construction, food services, and federal/military. In 2015, Pettis County led the region in taxable sales with total revenue exceeding $630 million.

Our core team consists of Community Development, Economic Development, and Downtown Development offices. This team is fast, efficient, and friendly. These three pillars not only cross paths, but they also collaborate. They assess and overcome any potential obstructions through thoughtful assessment and sound decision-making.

Also contributing is the City of Sedalia. The City's economic and industrial development efforts are led by the Economic Development Sedalia Pettis County. EDSPC’s focus is the retention, expansion, and recruitment of companies within our targeted industries. With over 70 manufacturing and industrial-related businesses, Sedalia serves as the beacon of commerce for the greater region.

Within the past 10 years, Economic Development has assisted 58 companies with either building or expanding their facilities. This assistance led to $615 million of capital investment and created 2,332 new jobs. The total annual payroll from these efforts has increased by nearly $103 million. Our Downtown National Historic District has been aided by over $24 million in private investment. It has also been able to improve infrastructure with an additional $7 million provided by public investment. These improvements have made the Downtown District more attractive to retailers.

Come join Team Sedalia as we build momentum while strengthening our regional market center.

DREAM Initiative

In 2006, Sedalia was one of ten communities chosen for the DREAM Initiative. This Initiative helped Sedalia engage in downtown redevelopment and revitalization. It offered technical and financial assistance for infrastructure improvements, historic preservation, affordable housing, business development, and job creation. As then-mayor of Sedalia, Bob Wasson stated 'The DREAM Initiative will reinforce a sense of place and cultural heritage in the heart of Sedalia.' A current look at our beautiful and historic downtown is proof that it pays to dream.

Building Maintenance

The City of Sedalia is responsible for the health and upkeep of facilities used throughout the city to support municipal operations. We maintain City Hall and the West Fire Station. We also maintain the new Community Center and the Sedalia Memorial Airport. In sum, the Building Maintenance staff is responsible for maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for any employee or citizen that utilizes any City facility on a daily basis.
