Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement office is dedicated to ensuring the safety of Sedalia citizens in their homes, workplaces, or while shopping and dining. This is accomplished through routine and unscheduled inspections and enforcement of city code.

The City Council adopts and reviews building standards. A team of city inspectors then works to verify compliance and provides guidance on projects throughout the city. If you are building a new home or business within the city limits, you may rest assured that the latest internationally recognized standards will guide the construction process.

Before you build, contact the Building Safety office to ensure that you have the appropriate permits on file. The permitting process allows the city staff to verify that the plans for your building conform to safety and property standards. Completing this step before a project begins saves headaches for everyone in the long run. If you have questions about a project you are considering, contact Building Safety for more information.

The Community Development Department enforces all building-related ordinances for the City Council. This includes zoning laws, floodplain ordinances, nuisance ordinances, and other ordinances as directed.
