Meet Our Department Leaders

Matthew Wirt, City Administrator
Matthew Wirt, City Administrator

City Administrator Matthew Wirt is a lifelong Pettis County resident whose deep connection to Sedalia is rooted in family, faith, and service. His family originally came to Sedalia through employment with Rival Manufacturing, and today Wirt continues that legacy of dedication as a small farm owner, raising hay for horses and farm animals. Raised working alongside his father on mechanical and carpentry projects, and later employed on cattle farms and in construction, he developed early values grounded in hard work, responsibility, and community.

Wirt has proudly served the City of Sedalia for over 25 years. He began his career as a police officer in 1999, advancing through the ranks to become Chief of Police, a role he held for more than five years before transitioning into city administration. During his law enforcement career, he handled complex investigations including homicides and large-scale financial crimes, and led officers through some of the most turbulent periods in recent history, including COVID-19 and periods of civil unrest.

As City Administrator, Wirt focused on building a high-performing, results-oriented leadership team committed to accountability, improvement, and measurable progress for residents.

“Sedalia is my home, and I care about it just as deeply as you do. This is not just my career—it is my calling. My life’s work has been about service, leadership, and doing what is right, even when it is difficult.”
Matthew Wirt

Wirt’s leadership philosophy centers on trust, service, integrity, and teamwork. He believes success is measured not by titles or accolades but by building a community where families can live happy, productive lives.

Outside of public service, he has been married for 25 years, is the father of two children, and has three dogs. He has been riding motorcycles for 37 years and now shares that passion with his son. His personal values are grounded in faith, family, agriculture, and hard work.

Guiding Motto:
Serve with integrity. Lead with vision. Build what lasts.
