Public Notice of Municipal Election & Candidate Filing Dates

In accordance with State law and Ordinances of the City of Sedalia, Missouri. The General Municipal Election for 2025 will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

New Filing Deadlines

  • Opening Date for Filing: Tuesday, December 9, 2025
  • Closing Date for Filing: Tuesday, December 30, 2025

Declaration of Candidacy may be filed with the Office of the City Clerk, 200 S. Osage, Sedalia, Mo. on December 9, 2025 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and thereafter Monday thru Friday from 8:30 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., excluding the following days when City Hall is officially closed: December 19, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and all day December 24, 2025 and December 25, 2025.

Offices Up for Election

  • Mayor (4-year term expiring April 2030)
  • Councilman – 1st Ward (1-year term expiring April 2027)
  • Councilman - 1st Ward (2-year term expiring April 2028)
  • Councilman – 2nd Ward (2-year term expiring April 2028)
  • Councilman – 3rd Ward (2-year term expiring April 2028)
  • Councilman – 4th Ward (2-year term expiring April 2028)

Candidate Qualifications

Mayor Qualifications per State Statute 77.230: No person shall be Mayor unless he or she be at least thirty years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of such city at the time of and for two years next preceding his or her election. When two or more persons shall have an equal number of votes for the office of Mayor, the matter shall be determined by the Council.

  • Petition required with 100 signatures of registered City-Wide Voters, but encouraged to get more. Forms are available below.
  • Filing fee for Mayor is $100.00

Councilman Qualifications per State Statute 77.060: No person shall be Councilman unless he or she is at least twenty-one years of age prior to taking office, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant of the City for one year next preceding his or her election, and a resident of the ward from which he or she is elected six months next preceding his or her election. Whenever there is a tie in the election of a Councilman, the matter shall be determined by the Council.

  • Petition required with 25 signatures of registered voters of the ward, but encouraged to get more. Forms are available below.
  • Filing fee for Councilman is $50.00.
