Thurs., Dec. 22, 2022 Trash Pick-up To Be Completed on Mon., Dec. 26, 2022 Due to Equipment Freezing

The City of Sedalia Public Works Department announced that certain areas of Thursday trash pick-up routes are being delayed due to equipment freezing up. The area between W. 3rd Street and W. Broadway Ave. from S. Moniteau Avenue to U.S. 65 and the area from U.S. 65 to State Fair Boulevard from W. Broadway Avenue to W. Main Street routinely picked up on Thursday will be picked up on Monday, December 26, 2022. The Sanitation Department had planned to get trash picked up before the dramatic drop in temperature, however, temperatures dropped sooner than predicted resulting in equipment freezing up. As previously released, with predicted low temperatures overnight Thursday reaching -7o F and 2oF as the high temperature on Friday, the City is canceling trash operations for this Friday, December 23, 2022. With wind chills late Thursday night into Friday morning forecast as low as 35 degrees below zero, the safety of Sanitation workers in these temperatures is of concern. Friday customers’ trash will be picked up on Monday, December 26, 2022 as well as the remainder of Thursday routes. Regular trash collections will resume on Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

As a reminder, Sedalia Water advises citizens to let their cold water drip from the faucet as running water through the pipe — even at a trickle — helps prevent pipes from freezing during extreme low temperatures.
