City, Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation partner to place AEDs in City Hall, Convention Hall

(SEDALIA, MISSOURI) : The City of Sedalia received a grant from the Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation to assist with the purchase and installation of two Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units.  The units, critical to saving lives during cardiac emergencies, have been installed at City Hall and Convention Hall.

“The safety and welfare of our community is always a prime concern and protecting that safety and welfare is constantly changing with new innovations and ideas”, said Mayor Bob Wasson.  “The BRHC Foundation has recently made available a grant to assist with the purchase AEDs for City Hall and Convention Hall.  With the CPR and AED training that our employees have received, members of our staff have achieved Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.  I continue to be proud of their efforts to protect and serve the citizens of our community.”

“Statistics from the Red Cross show that nearly 50,000 Americans who die every year from sudden cardiac arrest could be saved with the proper cardiac care – including use of an AED in the minutes immediately following the arrest”, said Sedalia Fire Chief Mike Ditzfeld.  “The City is taking the proactive step of installing these life-saving units at facilities so that if ever needed, help is just moments away.  The Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation has been instrumental in getting these units in place and the City appreciates the Foundations’ commitment to making these units available.”

Melia Douglass, Director of the Bothwell Regional Health Center Foundation said, “The BRHC Foundation is happy to be able to provide this important equipment to the Fire Department.  The City of Sedalia has been very supportive of our efforts to improve the health of our community and this is one way we can give back and help meet an important need.”

The City of Sedalia offers CPR training and certification to staff members with training led by members of the Sedalia Police and Fire Departments.  To date, more than 75 staff members have achieved American Heart Association certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) including CPR and AED programs.
