Annual "Clean Sweep" Program

As part of the City of Sedalia's neighborhood clean-up initiative, the "Clean Sweep" Program divides the City into 12 sections encompassing the entire area served by the City's Sanitation Division.

Clean Sweep 2022

Beginning the week of April 4, 2022 and continuing through the week of July 11, 2022, each area of the City described below had a Clean Sweep event.  No events are planned during the weeks of Memorial Day, Good Friday and Independence Day.

City crews pick up major bulky items on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each scheduled week. To assist City crews, residents should place items away from trees and overhead lines to help make collection easier.  Figure 2 below shows placement of materials at the curb.

Each residence is allowed to place up to 4-cubic yards of bulky waste and 4-cubic yards of yard waste/tree trimmings at the curb for collection during the Clean Sweep Event.  If more than 4-cubic yards of bulky waste and 4-cubic yards of yard waste are placed at the curb the residence will have a door hanger placed on the door stating the additional charge that will appear on their next monthly utility billing for the excess material collected.

The map, Figure 1, and table below further describes the clean sweep areas. The individual for a fee pick-up on demand service is not available during the Clean Sweep Event period, April 4 through July 11, 2022.

During the 2021 Clean Sweep Program, the City disposed of 2,160 cu yards of trash and collected 660 cu yards of yard waste and tree trimmings.

Cost of Excess Volume of Waste Collected

Residents placing more than 4-cubic yards of bulky waste and 4-cubic yards of yard waste/tree trimmings during the Clean Sweep Event will have a door hanger placed on the door stating the additional charge that will appear on their next monthly utility billing for the excess material collected. The cost per additional cubic yard in excess of 4-cubic yards can be found in the City’s fee schedule.  To assist in understanding how much material can be placed at the curb without incurring additional charges, 4-cubic yards is the equivalent of 2 standard pick-up loads. If you need assistance in determining the cost for materials planned for disposal, please contact the Sanitation Division at (660) 827-7820 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or Public Works at (660) 851-7636 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All materials will need to be placed at the curb or between the sidewalk and the street in the greenspace away from overhead lines and trees by 6:00 a.m. on the Monday of the area's Clean Sweep Event Week. Sanitation crews will then spend the week collecting and disposing of the materials for that area. We are asking residents to place materials in segregated piles as shown in the diagram below.
